“Our excursion was cancelled and the substitute excursion we were offered since we couldn’t go the following day due to our travel schedule wasn’t what we expected. There was no visibility and we had paid a lot for the previous excursion and weren’t offered a refund on the difference. Our travel guide/ drivers were very polite however.”

3.Annecy – Venice of the Alps – Tour from Geneva

★★★★★★★★★★4.5 · 418 reviews · 5 hours (approx.) · from $99

Travel from Geneva to Annecy by air-conditioned coach, then follow an English-speaking guide through the canals, Old Town, Palais de l’Isle, and Château d’Annecy area. You get about three hours in town, including a 45-minute walking tour and free time for lunch, shopping, and lake walks.

“It was a last minute trip. Nice to not think about where to go because there are no stops on the bus. 75 francs was the last minute price for the geneve to annecy tour. Flix bus was about 15 francs each way also last minute. The tour was very short so maybe it's better to take Flix bus and then a separate tour guide in annecy. However, the tour guide for swiss tours (Arnault) was very nice and definitely cared about our learning. Perhaps they could expand by 1 more hour to allow some more time in annecy.”

★★★★★★★★★★4.0 · 416 reviews · 2 to 3 hours (approx.) · from $76

See Geneva’s UN district, Broken Chair, Jet d’Eau, Flower Clock, and Old Town by coach, mini train, or on foot. Guides such as Gabriel and Berry add useful local help. Add the seasonal Lake Geneva cruise for views, wine, cheese, and a relaxed finish, but plan for possible waits.

“Though very friendly, our tour guide was not good. If she introduced herself, we did not hear her name. Her English was barely understandable, and the tour script was read robotically. We could not hear the tour description well despite the AV being turned up. For Viator, overall, instructions are sparse. How do we know which group is yours? Can you have a uniform or sign? It was unclear that the boat trip was later in the day, and not right after the coach tour. We had a nice day, but it could have been better.”

“Our guide was personable and interesting; however, when you invest in a guided excursion, you expect expertise and informed decision-making — otherwise you could simply do the trip on your own. To me, the mark of a good tour operator is the ability to anticipate conditions and adjust the plan. This tour included a cable car ride to the summit of Aiguille du Midi. The day was very cloudy, yet we were reassured that the views at the top would be worth it. Once we arrived, visibility was zero — only dense clouds. Given today’s readily available weather data, this seemed predictable. Despite the lack of visibility, our time at…”
